Steps to take

Something you've got to understand is that our civilization is rapidly moving towards its own destruction and the only thing that will change that fact is a sufficiently large amount of people changing the way they live. That;s easy to say, but the best way for us to live is by taking the advice we give to others, as in practicing what we preach. If you're not part of the solution you're part of the problem. Don't wait for others to lead the way, be the change you want to see in the world, start taking the necessary steps now.

The first step is easy with practice and every single person can do it: be loving towards your fellow humans. The problem that's causing the most trouble with our race is that most people care so much more about themselves than they do about others. But selfish behavior is self-defeating. You may benefit from being negative towards someone in the short term, but they're most likely going to respond by being negative towards others, who will do the same to even more people and even more negativity will find its way back to you in the long term. If you care about yourself you should be good to other people no matter what.

When someone wrongs you your natural reaction is to get upset and take it out on someone, but that's just your animal instinct and it's the worse way to respond to negativity. In my short life I've been beaten, robbed, scammed, robbed by a friend on my birthday, I've watched countless cars leave me stranded hitch hiking on the side of the road, often for hours and at times in literally blistering desert heat, people driving by have yelled all sorts of offensive things, swerved as if to hit me and made profane gestures. I've been mistreated for the way I dress and for the color of my skin, a good friend of mine turned on me and tried to make me as miserable as he could while my uncle and father were both on their deathbeds and he beat me bloody in my kitchen with a cooking pot while my girlfriend watched, a girlfriend who later hooked up with that friend. So I have enough of an idea of how bad people can be, and how difficult it can be to not let their negativity get you down, but I've come to realize that the only reasonable way to treat others, no matter what the context, is with love.

We grow up surrounded by negativity, people being selfish and bad to eachother is the norm and there;s a strong push to be normal. When someone's nasty to me I just try and put it into perspective, the only reason they're being negative is because they've been surrounded by negativity and they don't know better. If you respond to negativity by being nice people are usually inspired on some level to start doing the same.

Don't wait to be provoked to be nice though, always be good to people. Wave and smile at strangers, if you have the time to help someone with something help them for the sake of helping them, pick up hitch hikers and feed people when they're hungry. You can't even begin to take the weight of the world on your shoulders but you can make a positive difference in your community which will grow outwards as more people are inspired to do the same.

The next most important step is to become as self sufficient as you can. Right now the best way to do that is to build and live in an Earthship. You might not like the idea of leaving the place where you live right now but put it into perspective, the survival of the human race (which includes you) is more important. It does take money to build an Earthship, so you'll have to get that however you can. I've found that the best way to get a lot of money is by not spending much of the money you make on things you don't need. You only need food, water, warmth and shelter, and probably less of each than you're used to. Once you're in an Earthship you won't have to spend much if any your earnings on energy, food or property tax so you'll have a lot more buying power and you can make up for lost time.

Don't expect anyone to understand or admire you for limiting your spending so you can buy an Earthship, no everyone has vision. The best leaders lead by example, and once you're living in an Earthship, helping to make the planet healthier and making more money while you do it they're far more likely to be inspired to appreciate and/or follow your example.

Thanks a lot, your headline

Thanks a lot, your headline is Living Loving and Learning, which is (not surprisingly) fitting being that not a half an hour before I read it I was thinking what I would tell people I wanted if they asked me, which was to live, love, be loved and learn. What's that one they say about great minds and how they think...for fear of sounding conceded (when the more you know the more you know how little you know that is). I took some kind of gut burning virus home with me from Burning Man so I'm currently incapacitated and not totally articulate. I put a lot of thought into anything I post on my website (which I then post here) so it's good to know when it's appreciated, when it's not and if not why it's not. I speak my mind which is influenced by my heart so no thanks necessary as far as that goes, I'm about to read any posts of yours and I anticipate I'll learn from and appreciate them. Loving you brother, Namaste.
